Cheraton Stud was established in 1976 and in the foundation years bred quality ponies that successfully campaigned across a variety of disciplines. Originally based in Newham and Romsey (Victoria), the stud re-located to Gippsland in 1988.

The very first horse bred and shown was Pirates Charm, an extremely successful Part-Bred Arabian mare.

The vision for the stud has not waivered. In 1986, Kirreway Rialto, a strapping six-week old Welsh B colt was purchased from Kirreway Stud. This young colt became the foundation sire for Cheraton Stud.

To accompany Rialto, a very select band of broodmares based on the studs emphasis for quality, type, conformation, movement and attitude was acquired. The influence of Rialto and his offspring has been realised in the winning circle at major competitions across Australia. The stud has continued to evolve and develop.

When the need to find an outcross to Rialto fillies arose, the Australian Riding Pony Stallion Cheraton True Blue was trialled. The first crop produced the Royal Melbourne Show winning filly Cheraton Tarantella. True Blue has been a top-producing sire of outstanding stock for the stud. His stock have taken out major state and national show hunter titles across the country. In November 2019, we were honoured to have been awarded the International Supreme Champion Led Part Welsh exhibit AND the International Supreme Champion Ridden Part Welsh exhibit at the International Welsh Show (Sydney, Australia) – bred, produced, handled and ridden by Caroline Parker.

In 2015, Cheraton Stud introduced Cheraton Blue Label to the show ring. Blue Label is the ultimate fusion for our stud, carrying the lines of Kirreway Rialto crossed with the spectacular movement and expression of True Blue. At the 2015 Royal Melbourne Horse Show, Blue Label proved his ability by winning Supreme Led Riding Pony Show Hunter Exhibit. He then went on to win the Junior Led Show Hunter Riding Pony of the Year at the Riding Pony of the Year Show.

He has also proven himself under saddle – placing 6thoverall at the 5 year old Dressage with the Stars.

Blue Label’s first progeny have proven extremely successful in the show and dressage ring, with his first two foals winning a royal supreme champion and state dressage championship respectively.

Cheraton Olympus was then purpose bred to introduce new blood into the stud. He is by the leading producer of show horses (Kilvington Scoundrel UK) and is out of the state and royal winning mare Cheraton Work of Art (AI UK). We believe Olympus’s dominant qualities will cross very well to True Blue, Rialto and Blue Label mares and look forward to the resultant foals.

The stud has a strict gelding policy and most seasons, all offspring are available for sale.

Our greatest pleasure has been to watch our clients grow and develop with the horses to achieve great successes – both personally and in the show ring.
